TURF, GOLF & SPORTS FIELDS

Humates stimulate metabolic processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, nucleic acid synthesis and ion uptake. Biochemical processes in the cell such as replication through RNA can be positively enhanced by humates ability to stimulate enzymes. Foliar application with liquid humates increases photosynthesis. When photosynthesis is increased, plants create and store carbohydrates more quickly and efficiently resulting in more energy to the plant. Well-developed grasses with larger root systems (larger root and feeder hairs) means increases uptake of nutrients ensuring quicker growth, hardier stalk, longevity and tolerance of abiotic and biotic stresses, including diseases. Foliar application of humates on turfgrass significantly enhances antioxidants in leaves.

Primary goals

  • Improve turf density, color, and root depth
  • Increase water infiltration and reduce runoff
  • Improve nutrient efficiency and reduce salt stress
  • Enhance recovery from traffic, heat, and compaction

Recommended products

  • ✅ Fine-Ground Raw Dry Humate (soil conditioning & compaction support)
  • ✅ Fully Soluble Liquid Humate (routine turf feeding & stress management)

PRODUCT 1: Fine-Ground Raw Dry Humate

Best for: Soil conditioning, compaction mitigation, long-term turf health

Why fine dry humate works for TURF

  • High soil contact improves aggregation
  • Supports microbial activity under heavy traffic
  • Improves infiltration and oxygen exchange
  • Excellent foundation for sand-based or compacted soils

Application Methods

  • Broadcast spreader
  • Drop spreader
  • Topdressing blends
  • Incorporation during renovation

Application RATES (DRY)

Recommended Rates (TURF)

Soil Conditioning / Renovation

  • Up to 160 lb per acre
  • Equivalent rate
  • ≈ 3.7 lb per 1,000 sq ft

When to use:

  • Compaction issues
  • Renovations or aeration events
  • Poor infiltration or root depth

Maintenance (Optional, Lower Rate)

  • 80 lb per acre
  • ≈ 1.8 lb per 1,000 sq ft

When to use:

  • Building soil carbon gradually
  • Blending with sand or compost

“Fine particles integrate quickly into turf root zones, especially when watered in or aerated.”

PRODUCT 2: Fully Soluble Liquid Humate

Best for: Routine turf programs, stress mitigation, frequent low-dose applications

Why liquid humate EXCEL IN TURF

  • Fast soil penetration
  • Compatible with spray programs
  • Safe for frequent use
  • Improves nutrient uptake and color without surge growth

Application Rates (Liquid)

💧Standard TURF APPLICATION

  • 1 gal liquid humate per acre
  • ≈ 0.023 gal (3 oz) per 1,000 sq ft
  • 1 gal concentrate → up to 100 gal water
  • Apply with standard turf sprayers

When to use

  • During routine spray cycles
  • Before heat stress periods
  • After aeration
  • During recovery from traffic or play

RECOMMENDED PROGRAMS

🔹Program A: Routine Turf Health (Most Common)

Best for: Golf fairways, athletic fields, high-visibility turf

  • Liquid humate: 3 oz per 1,000 sq ft every 4–6 weeks

🔹Program B: Compaction & Stress Support

Best for: Heavy traffic areas, goal mouths, tees, sidelines

  • Dry humate: 160 lb/ac (3.7 lb/1,000 sq ft)
  • Liquid humate: Follow-up at 1 gal/ac

🔹Program C: Liquid-Only (Low Labor)

Best for: Contractors, parks, municipal turf

  • Liquid humate: 1 gal/ac every 4–6 weeks

 Irrigation & Safety Notes

✔ Water in dry applications after spreading
✔ No turf burn when applied as directed
✔ No play restriction after drying (check local policies)

⚠️ Avoid:

  • Mixing with high-salt materials
  • Applying during extreme heat without irrigation

FAQ

Q: Will humates darken turf too much?
A: No. Color response is gradual and balanced, not cosmetic overstimulation.

Q: Can this replace fertilizer?
A: No, but it improves fertilizer efficiency and consistency.

Q: Is this safe on sand-based greens?
A: Yes, and especially beneficial for nutrient holding and water management.
